Family Rescued by Good Samaritan After Rollover Crash on State Route 13
RICHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A Good Samaritan helped rescue a young couple and their two children following a single-vehicle rollover crash on State Route 13 near State Route 96 on Saturday evening, July 25.
The crash was reported at approximately 7:26 p.m. Richland County Post troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded along with Franklin Township Fire Department and EMS, Shelby EMS and Madison EMS.
According to the Highway Patrol, Steven Bourne, 23, of Shiloh, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on State Route 13 when the pickup traveled off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a guardrail, entered a ditch, hit a tree and overturned.
A passing motorist stopped at the scene and broke a window on the pickup to help Bourne, his wife, 22-year-old Brandie Bourne, and their two children—ages 7 months and 2 years—escape from the vehicle.
Steven and Brandie Bourne were not wearing seat belts, according to the investigating trooper. Both were transported for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening. No information was provided regarding injuries to the children.
Authorities said drugs and alcohol were not suspected as factors in the crash. Steven Bourne was cited for failure to control and a seat-belt violation.
State Route 13 was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene and the wreckage was removed. Ronk’s Auto & Truck Towing Inc assisted with the cleanup.
