Serious Injury Crash on I-71 in Richland County

Mansfield – The Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three‑vehicle serious injury crash that occurred today at approximately 12:27 a.m. on Interstate 71 near milepost 173 in Mifflin Township, Richland County.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2026 Ford Bronco, operated by Antonio Mayberry, 36, of Cleveland, was traveling southbound on Interstate 71 when he traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a stationary 2020 Lexus RC occupied by Zober Ahmad, 24, of Stow. The Lexus was parked on the left shoulder at the time of the crash. The impact pushed the Lexus forward into a stationary 2008 Ford F‑650 tow truck.

After impact, the Lexus struck Derek Tharp, 28 and Steven Gamble, 38, both of Mansfield. Gamble and Tharp were outside the tow truck at the time of the crash.

Ahmad was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield with minor injuries and Tharp was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield with serious injuries. Mayberry and Gamble were treated on scene by EMS. Mayberry and Ahmad were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Patrol was assisted on scene by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Mifflin Township Fire Department, Mansfield Fire Department, Madison Fire Department, and Ronk’s Towing.
