Highway Patrol Investigates Fatal Crash on U.S. 62 in Holmes County

 

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, OHIO — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday evening on U.S. Route 62 near Township Road 626 in Holmes County.

According to the Highway Patrol, troopers from the Wooster Post responded to the crash on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at approximately 8:41 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a blue 2016 Honda Pilot was traveling westbound on U.S. 62, while a red 2018 Jeep Cherokee was traveling eastbound. Troopers said the Honda traveled left of center and struck the Jeep in the eastbound lane of U.S. 62.

After the impact, the Honda came to rest on the southbound berm of U.S. 62, while the Jeep came to rest on the northbound berm.

The driver of the Honda, Renee E. Troyer, 49, of Millersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, Laura L. Troyer, 32, of Millersburg, was flown by Metro Life Flight to Summa Health Center in Akron with serious injuries.

Two juveniles who were passengers in the Jeep were also critically injured. They were flown to Akron Children’s Hospital by Metro Life Flight and MedFlight.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by East Holmes Fire & EMS, Millersburg EMS, MedFlight, Metro Life Flight, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Rigz Towing.
