Fredericksburg Woman Killed After Pickup Truck Strikes Bicycle on Harrison Road
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Fredericksburg woman Thursday afternoon in Wayne County.
According to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers were called at approximately 3:58 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, to Harrison Road, about 0.2 miles west of Nonpariel Road, for a report of a pickup truck striking a bicyclist.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a red 2013 Ford F-350 pickup truck and a black Sun bicycle were both traveling westbound on Harrison Road when the crash occurred.
Troopers said the bicyclist, identified as Emma Miller, 68, of Fredericksburg, attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway without signaling. At the same time, the Ford F-350 was attempting to pass the bicycle on the left.
The collision occurred near the center line of the roadway.
Miller was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Highway Patrol, she was not wearing a helmet or reflective safety equipment at the time of the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Fred Hostetler, 68, of Shreve. Troopers said Hostetler was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Assisting troopers at the scene were the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, South Central Fire and EMS, 3 Sons Towing, and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
