Grinches Who Nearly Stole Christmas From Ashland Family Sentenced to Prison

ASHLAND, Ohio — Two Mansfield men tied to a downtown Ashland burglary that damaged a local business and briefly threatened a Christmas blessing for a family in need will now spend time in prison.

Ashland County Common Pleas Court handled a busy April docket under Judge David R. Stimpert, including two felony sentencing cases connected to the Dec. 12, 2025, break-in at Diamond Shine Nails, 48 W. Main St.

Amaad Mack, 26, of Mansfield, was sentenced April 13 in Case No. 26-CRI-019 on charges of breaking and entering and vandalism. Mack received 12 months in prison on each count, with the sentences ordered to run concurrently. He was given 69 days of jail-time credit and ordered to pay $3,341.67 in restitution.

Quortez Grier, 27, of Mansfield, was sentenced April 27 in Case No. 26-CRI-020 on charges of breaking and entering and vandalism. Grier also received 12 months in prison on each count, to be served concurrently. He was given 81 days of jail-time credit and ordered to pay $3,341.67 in restitution.

The case dates back to a late-night burglary at Diamond Shine Nails in downtown Ashland, where suspects smashed the front window, entered the business and removed a cash register before fleeing the scene. The crime caused thousands of dollars in damage and struck an emotional chord in the community because the stolen money included funds connected to a holiday charity effort for a local family in need.

According to previous court records and bond hearing testimony, surveillance video played a key role in the investigation. Prosecutors previously told the court Mack was seen earlier in the evening at the Wagon Wheel bar with co-defendants before later being captured on video breaking the front glass of Diamond Shine Nails and entering the business.

Grier was later identified in court proceedings as the person believed to have carried the cash drawer out of the salon and placed it into a vehicle driven by co-defendant Sharrisse Jones before the group returned to Mansfield.

Jones, who was indicted separately, was previously accused of acting as the lookout and getaway driver. Her case involved charges of complicity in breaking and entering, possessing criminal tools and complicity in vandalism, her Jury Trial is set for 07/14/2026 at 08:30 AM

The burglary first drew attention not only because of the damage done to a downtown business, but because the cash register reportedly contained money raised through a holiday raffle meant to help a local single mother and her children following a house fire.

What began as a crime that nearly took away a Christmas blessing ended with the Ashland community delivering the final word.

After ACP News first reported the burglary in December, residents and local businesses stepped up. Within days, the stolen charity funds were replaced several times over, with the community raising $2,700, more than four times the amount stolen, to make sure the family still received its Christmas blessing.

Now, with Mack and Grier sentenced to prison, the case closes another chapter in a story that started with broken glass, stolen charity money and a downtown business left damaged, but ended with accountability in court and a community that refused to let the “Grinches” win.

Great work by the Ashland Police Division and the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office helped bring the case through the court system and secure prison sentences for two of the defendants connected to the burglary.
