Marion Troopers Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Pleasant Township
MARION COUNTY, Ohio — Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that claimed the life of a Marion man Monday evening.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on May 18, 2026, at approximately 6:08 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 4 and White Oaks Road in Pleasant Township, Marion County.
Troopers said the crash involved a red 2011 Kia Forte, driven by a 16-year-old juvenile, and a black 2017 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse motorcycle, driven by 54-year-old Shawn R. Woolum, of Marion.
According to the preliminary investigation, the juvenile was traveling northbound on State Route 4 and was attempting to make a left turn onto White Oaks Road when he failed to yield to the motorcycle. Woolum was traveling southbound on State Route 4 when the motorcycle struck the Kia Forte.
Woolum was separated from the motorcycle during the crash.
Pleasant Township EMS transported Woolum from the scene to Marion General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Troopers said Woolum was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The 16-year-old driver of the Kia Forte was transported from the scene by Marion Township EMS to Marion General Hospital with minor injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Pleasant Township Fire and EMS, Marion Township EMS, Kirby’s Towing and Precision Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
